Brockhill Solar Farm

Brockhill Solar Ltd. is proposing a new 25MW solar farm on parcels of land at Brockhill Lane, Redditch, B97 6RB and Brockhill Lane, Tardebigge, B60 1LU. The purpose of this consultation is to provide an opportunity for local residents and businesses to learn about the draft proposals at an early stage in the process. Any feedback will be used to help shape the final proposals for the site.

The Climate Change Act commits the UK government by law to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 100% of 1990 level (or ‘net zero’) by the year 2050. More locally, Bromsgrove District Council also declared its own climate emergency in 2019, setting out ambitions to reduce carbon emissions by 50% in 2030 and to achieve net zero by 2040. It is estimated by an independent thinktank that 40GW of solar energy is required by 2023 in order to achieve this target, with a capacity of 15GW currently existing.

The proposed solar farm will have a total export capacity of 25MW, which is enough clean electricity to provide power to approximately 12,500 homes per annum. This will make a vital contribution to the UK’s net zero targets, whilst helping to secure a clean, independent energy source for the country.

The site is comprised of two agricultural field parcels approx. 2.5 km to the northwest of Redditch and directly adjacent to HM Prison Hewell. The land is currently used for arable purposes and is comprised of flat, open land which is suitable for solar generation.

The site will be connected to the National Grid via the existing overhead line between Redditch and Upton Warren, which is due south of the proposal site and has been confirmed by National Grid Energy Distribution (NGED) to have the necessary capacity for the proposals.

Public consultation is a valuable opportunity to provide feedback on the proposals at this early stage in the project programme. Brockhill Solar Ltd. are keen to bring this project forward in collaboration with the local community and other key stakeholders.

A consultation was held on 12th July, 6.30pm – 9pm at Tardebigge Community Hall. Nearby residents were notified by letter. If you were unable to attend the consultation in person, you can view the presentation boards, leaflet and letter via the links below.
